Three Peaks Race

Relay At The Peaks

New relay option to be introduced at iconic Yorkshire fell race...

The Three Peaks Race is one of Yorkshire's true classics. The famous race traverses the Yorkshire Dales mountains of Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside and is one of the oldest fell races in Britain. It is a tough race, but one that organisers are keen to open up to more runners and so. with that in mind 2025. will see the introduction of the Three Peaks Relay alongside the main event on on 26 April.

The new addition will help with the event's 70th anniversary celebrations, organisers say: "Our first ever Three Peaks Relay will hopefully enable a lot more runners to be part of our special 70th anniversary event. It will consist of teams of six, with two runners running each section together.

"It could be that someone wants to see how they cope with one mountain with a view to doing the full race in the future, or that they know they would struggle with the full race and cut off times but will be more than capable of completing one section."

Runners like Kim Cavill are excited at the prospect, she said: "This is a great idea to move the race forward and I think it will encourage more women to come and see what's what as well. Good move Three Peaks folk!"

First run in 1954, the race covers 24 miles of the most rugged and spectacular countryside in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, taking competitors to a height of 2,500 feet above sea level.

Entries for the relay will open on 14 December. If you'd like to know more, visit the Three Peaks Race website.
