Donkey Brae Races 2026

Coastal Running And Festival Atmosphere At Donkey Brae

Coastal racing returns to Aberdour...

The Donkey Brae Races return on 2 August 2026 as part of the popular Aberdour Festival, bringing a day of running, community spirit and coastal scenery to the Fife village.

Centred around Silver Sands Park, the event features a scenic 7 mile race, a junior 2 mile race and a family friendly fun run. The races have become a longstanding highlight of the festival programme, attracting runners from across Scotland alongside local participants and supporters.

The headline 7 mile race follows an undulating mixed terrain route between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay, taking runners along coastal paths with views across the Firth of Forth. The course combines trails, paths and rolling terrain before returning to Aberdour for the event's signature finish.

Both the 7 mile and 2 mile races conclude with the climb up Donkey Brae before runners emerge into the finish area at Silver Sands Park. The finish is made even more memorable by the crowds gathered for the village market, creating a lively atmosphere as participants complete their race.

The junior 2 mile event offers younger runners the opportunity to experience race day excitement on a route that stays within Aberdour while still incorporating woodland sections and the famous climb. A shorter fun run around the playing fields provides an accessible option for families looking to be part of the day.

Away from the running, Aberdour Festival adds to the occasion with a village market, food vendors, family activities, local crafts and entertainment throughout the day. The combination of racing and community celebration helps make Donkey Brae one of Scotland's most distinctive summer running events.

With coastal scenery, mixed terrain running and a welcoming festival atmosphere, the Donkey Brae Races continue to offer a memorable day out for runners of all ages in one of Fife's most attractive seaside settings.
