Lapping up the course at the Double or Quit 5 & 10 Mile race

Twice could be nice at Double or Quit charity race

The route has changed but runners will be pleased to know that Cardiac Hill remains.

Do I stay or do I go now? That’s the dilemma facing runners at the Double or Quit event on Saturday 27 August. A 5 mile race where participants have the choice of running two laps or one around Shipley Park, Derbyshire. Whatever they choose, all profits will go to Prostate Cancer UK.

Hosted by Ilkeston Running Club, the Double or Quit charity race is an annual event with a tantalising decision. Run (or Nordic Walk) two 5 mile laps or turn left at the split point and head for the finish after one 5 mile lap. Both have to be completed within the time limit of 2 hours 15 minutes.

This may sound straightforward; however, the route is challenging multi-terrain which includes a long steep climb up ‘Cardiac Hill’ and a few others to get the blood pumping! There are motivational signs to lift the spirits as participants run or walk up the hills and marshals will provide an additional boost in the form of words of encouragement.

The 5pm start time means there is enough time to do parkrun in the morning before heading over to Shipley Country Park for a few more miles. The start and finish is the same for participants in the 5 and 10 mile as they complete their distances within the deadline.

There are prizes for the 5 and 10 mile winning man and woman, veteran man and veteran woman. Every finisher is presented with a medal.

To date, the Double or Quit race has raised £15,500 for worthy causes. The organisers are dedicated to ensuring Prostate Cancer UK receive the maximum benefit from their event.

More information about this race including a recce of the course this Sunday (31 July) and how to enter can be found at the Ilkeston Running Club website.
