Big shout out for the Belper Rover
The arduous and attractive off-road race opens for business this Sunday.
The Belper Rover will be hitting the tracks and trails again on Sunday 13 August for a tough yet rewarding day in the Derwent Valley, Derbyshire. Entries open this Sunday (29 January) at 7pm for a popular event which often sells out.
Here is a race to add to this year’s diary where you'll run or walk 30K in a stunning part of the country with fellow enthusiasts and receive a medal plus a baked potato with filling afterwards. You’ll work up an appetite after completing a total of 1800ft elevation!
The event is held in August which means the weather is likely to be hot as was the case last year when temperatures were sweltering to say the least! There are water stations on the route but it’s a good idea to carry your own perhaps even a hydration vest if we have another scorcher.
It’s a well organised and friendly affair, open to walkers as well as runners who follow a circular route starting from Wyver Lane. The route fully signed and marshalled.
Caution must be taken on open roads as traffic has right of way so be sure to give way at all times.
Apart from this the route is mainly on bridlepaths, fields, woods and footpaths and includes hills so participants need to be prepared for those. The views from the top will be worth the pain of climbing. The surrounding countryside is equally stunning and part of the appeal of this event together with the organisation and atmosphere.
The Belper Rover website has more information about the event including a route description and a link to the Race Entry System page, waiting to go live.
And... the organisers are offering the tail runner marshal a free place this year and in the 2024 event.
