Templeton Trail Race 2026

Templeton Woods Awaits Trail Runners This August

Woodland trails near Dundee...

The Templeton Trail Race returns on Sunday 2 August 2026, offering runners a friendly introduction to trail running in the scenic surroundings of Templeton Woods on the western edge of Dundee.

Organised by Dundee Road Runners, the event follows an approximately 5.5 mile one lap course through woodland paths, forest trails and gently undulating terrain. While suitable for experienced trail runners, the race is also designed to welcome those looking to make their first move away from road racing and onto the trails.

Starting and finishing close to Clatto Reservoir, the route winds through Templeton Woods on a mixture of well defined park paths and natural trails. Short climbs add variety to the course, while the woodland setting provides a peaceful backdrop just minutes from the city.

The race has built a reputation for its relaxed atmosphere and strong club organisation. Marshals and route markers guide runners around the course, with refreshments available after the finish and prizes awarded across senior, masters and team categories.

Templeton Woods offers a very different running experience from traditional road races, combining flowing trails, forest scenery and a welcoming community feel. For runners looking to explore trail running or simply enjoy a summer race in one of Dundee’s best known green spaces, the Templeton Trail Race remains a popular fixture on the Scottish running calendar.

There are still entries available for this year's race via Entry Central here.
