Four Distances Await At Glen Tanar Trail Running Weekend
Trail running in the Cairngorms...
The Glen Tanar Trail Running Weekend returns on 25 and 26 July 2026, offering runners the chance to explore one of Scotland's most scenic trail running locations in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
Based on the stunning Glen Tanar Estate in Royal Deeside, the weekend features four race distances, giving runners the opportunity to choose from 10K, 15K, 25K and 55K challenges across a landscape of forest trails, estate tracks and open moorland.
Participants can expect routes that showcase the best of the estate's natural beauty. The courses pass through ancient Caledonian pine forests, follow tracks beside the winding River Tanar and cross rugged terrain surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the eastern Cairngorms.
The 10K and 15K races provide accessible options for those looking to experience trail running in a spectacular setting, while the 25K offers a longer challenge through more remote sections of the estate. For experienced endurance runners, the 55K ultra delivers a demanding day on the trails through some of Scotland's finest outdoor landscapes.
Organised by the team behind the popular Illuminator Night Run, the event has developed a strong reputation for combining challenging routes with outstanding scenery and a welcoming atmosphere.
A new addition for 2026 is a free entry opportunity to the Toddler Dash and Family Mile, giving runners another reason to secure a place at what continues to be one of Scotland's most attractive trail running weekends.
Whether tackling a first trail race or taking on the ultra distance challenge, runners can look forward to a memorable weekend of running through forests, moorland and riverside trails in the heart of Royal Deeside.
