What Goes Up Must Come Down!
This Lancashire race has its fair share of ups and downs...
Entries are open for the 2026 Darwen Dashers Half Marathon, with runners invited to take on the famous 'rollercoaster' course through the Lancashire countryside on Sunday 5 April. Hosted by Darwen Dashers Running Club in partnership with RunningSpec Events, the popular race will once again start and finish at Blacksnape Playing Fields.
Known locally as the 'rollercoaster' half marathon because of its challenging climbs and sweeping descents, the race offers runners a scenic but demanding test over the 13.1 mile distance. The 2026 event will once again feature a downhill start before runners tackle the undulating terrain of the course.
The circular route includes around 1,411 feet of ascent and takes participants through the countryside surrounding Darwen, passing through Edgeworth, Chapeltown and Egerton before returning towards Darwen. Runners follow the route in an anti-clockwise direction, with left turns forming the majority of the course. After the final climb, the last mile offers a more forgiving section with a gentle downhill run back to the finish at Blacksnape Playing Fields.
The race is also known for its wide ranging views across Lancashire. Organisers say: "In clear conditions runners can see Pendle Hill and Longridge Fell beyond nearby Blackburn. On exceptionally clear days it is even possible to glimpse Ingleborough and the distant fells of the Lake District."
All finishers will receive a commemorative medal and t-shirt, and an on site café will serve hot and cold food and drinks for runners and spectators throughout the event.
