Winter Run '21 digital version is a heart-warming success

10,000 dig deep to ensure the success of Cancer Research UK's annual fundraiser

More than 10,000 people braved freezing conditions to take part in a special digital version of the London Winter Run 10K on Sunday (7th February) raising an incredible sum of almost £800,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Some of the altruistic participants feature in this moving video explaining how, where and why they were running in this extraordinary event – the first fully digital London Winter Run.

Although the Virtual Winter Run 10K was the highlight for this year's entrants, it was the culmination of a supported training programme, with digital badges for achieving set distances and rewards for fundraising efforts, from a themed buff for raising £25 to a thermal bobble hat for collecting £150.

The badges recognised completing a range of distances from 5K up to a cumulative total of 500K, with stage badges for classic runs such as a half marathon and the full marathon.

Regular training articles from experts were released throughout the build-up and the highest achievers were recognised on the Winter Wonders Wall. When the numbers were crunched it was Sarah Cook who ran the furthest (4,491.44kms) while Rueben Cook has raised the most money so far (£7,375)...and still counting!

With the Virtual London Winter Run all wrapped up, the big news to look forward to is the one-off London Summer Run, which is now scheduled for Sunday 5 September 2021. Early bird entries are available until Sunday 14 February for £34 or the Valentine's couples special offer of £62 for two.
