runABC is in the process of upgrading and improving its online service so you might encounter the odd glitch over the next week or so but rest assured we’re working on them and the new site will be a fantastic resource for our running community.

The Late Francis Hamlett

Charity run to remember Francis Hamlett

All ages and abilities are invited to pay tribute to the late Francis Hamlett when they run in memory of ‘The Boss’ at the Frankie 5 Trail Race on Saturday 23 March 2019.

Francis Hamlett, an inspirational figure in the running community, got the best out of people whatever their level. It didn’t matter if they were a beginner or an experienced runner, ‘The Boss’ as he was popularly known, endowed them with self belief and the confidence to go beyond their limits. Many have achieved their goals as a result.

He began his sporting career at Trentham Running Club before switching to triathlons where he competed over a range of distances including half and full Ironman. His four sons shared his interest in triathlon: Charlie completed a 70.3 this year and Ruben and Evan have participated in junior triathlon events. The youngest son Theo is a keen supporter.

Francis was the founder of the Niteriders cycling group who are a familiar sight in their pink jerseys and take part in a variety of events including the Dougie Mac bike ride. They later moved into triathlons and one member of the group, Rachel Trpeski, is particularly grateful for his help and support at the start of her career.

The scenic Hanchurch Woods near Trentham is the location for the Frankie 5 Trail Race and Kids Fun Run, organised by Rachel Trpeski. Places are limited to 200 and every finisher will receive a pink Frankie T-shirt and a medal with proceeds going to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice (Dougie Mac).

Sign up now at Frankie 5 Trail Race (Niteriders).
