Breathtaking Running In Buxworth
Community support, greener choices and a stunning setting are all a part of this springtime 5 miler...
The popular Buxworth 5 road race is back on Thursday 1 May 2025, offering runners a mid-week chance to tackle a stunning yet tough five-mile course through the heart of Derbyshire’s High Peak. Starting from the picturesque village of Buxworth, this single-lap road race is known as one of the most scenic short races in the county.
The race begins on a closed section of road, giving participants a stress-free start and the freedom to settle into their stride before hitting the hills. The undulating course winds along quiet country lanes, offering spectacular views and a few challenging climbs that guarantee this is more about scenery and spirit than chasing personal bests. The final mile levels out, giving runners a well-earned flat finish.
There’s more than just a great race to look forward to as cash prizes are on offer for both the first male and female across the line - including a £50 course record bonus if anyone can break Andrew Heyes’ 27:21 or Lauren Heyes’ 30:39, both set in 2023.
The Buxworth 5 isn’t just about racing - the event has a proud tradition of community support, donating to local causes each year. In 2023, £1,000 was raised for the charity C-R-Y, which works to prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people and in 2024, £800 was donated to Whaley 4Wards.
In a bid to encourage greener choices, organisers are offering £2 beer vouchers to anyone who travels to the race by foot, bike, public transport or who shares a car with four or more. It’s all part of the club’s commitment to reducing the event’s environmental impact while rewarding those who make sustainable choices.
