Forces Combine For Running Good

A new partnership between Brathay Trust and Lakeland Trails will secure the future of the iconic Langdale Marathon...

Brathay Trust has announced a new partnership with race organisers, Lakeland Trails, to deliver the Langdale Road Races which comprise the Langdale Marathon and Half (20 September 2025) as well as the famous Christmas Pudding 10K in 2025.

A spokesperson said: "This agreement will enable these iconic road running events that include Europe’s toughest road marathon (measured by feet of ascent), the Langdale Marathon, to continue without interruption since they started in 1988."

Lakeland Trails was founded in 2004 to bring the alpine model of running events to the Lake District National Park. Starting with just 80 runners at their first event, they now organise a series of much-loved Lakes events that welcome over 9,000 runners every year. The organisation has a dedicated following in the running community and currently organises friendly, inclusive events ranging from 5K right through to a 100K ultra.

Independently run and based in Cumbria, the business focuses on making events as sustainable as possible and prioritises the use of local crew and suppliers.

Brathay Trust was founded in 1946 to provide world-class outdoor adventure learning opportunities for young people and now becomes the key charity partner of the Langdale events, retaining fundraising places and having representation on site on events days.

Both parties are excited to work together to support the amazing running community and continue the 38 year history of the Langdale Road Races, encouraging runners and fundraising for the charity at the same time.
