New parkrun for Central Scotland
Another scenic venue joins Scotland’s parkrun community...
Bo’ness has officially joined the parkrun family with the launch of Bo’ness Foreshore parkrun on Saturday (4 October). Despite Storm Amy forcing the cancellation of 45 parkruns across Scotland, the event went ahead on the Firth of Forth shoreline, attracting an impressive 243 finishers and 25 volunteers for its inaugural outing.
The course begins at the Bo’ness Harbour sign and takes runners on a flat route of a small loop followed by an out-and-back section. Most of the course is fully paved, with the exception of a short 200-metre trail section at the turnaround point. With stunning views along the River Forth, it is sure to prove popular with local runners and visitors alike.
The windy conditions made for a tough first morning, but that did not stop Sam O’Neill from setting the first male course record in 16:09 or Lynsey Hay from taking the women’s honours in 21:27. Both times set strong benchmarks for future parkrunners to chase.
Bo’ness Foreshore parkrun is supported by Edinburgh Airport, which provided start-up funding through its Community Fund. The event also benefitted from the guidance of parkrun UK and volunteer ambassador John Smith, along with the dedication of the Core Team whose hard work brought the idea to life.
Event organisers have extended their thanks to everyone who made the launch possible and are encouraging participants and volunteers to join them for a post-parkrun coffee at the Hope Street Café each week.
