Bertha's Back!
If you missed out on February's staging of this fun trail race, then make sure you sign up for October instead...
After the success of the February edition of the Bertha Park Trail Run organisers have announced that there will be a second run in 2024 on 20 October. Speaking about the decision, a spokesperson from Wee Run Events said: "There will be a second Bertha Park Trail Run coming up in the autumn which will be the reverse of the February route! So no coming up that lovely super steep farm path at the end - this time you get to go down it!"
The 10K trail run goes around Perth's Bertha Loch, right up to Almondbank and then back along the river. The course has technical parts and muddy sections as runners make their way through the woods with gentle hills and scenic views. Parts of the route are on tarmac, so organisers recommend using shoes that can cope with both trail and road.
Speaking about their event, organisers commented: "This is ideal for trail runners, cross country runners, joggers, new and experienced alike! We welcome all runners, from all backgrounds and all genders."
The really good news is that Starfish Cakes & Bakes will once again be sponsoring the event, so each runner will have a yummy treat waiting for them at the finish line - it was brownies in February. There will also be medals that have been handcrafted by the Workshop in Aberfeldy for all finishers.
If you are looking for a bigger challenge - then why not try Big Bertha which involves the same great 10K trail but runners can do as many laps of it as they like be that 10K, 20K, marathon or ultra. There are 12 hours to complete whatever distance you fancy (or can manage). This event will take place on 31 August.
If you're not sure about taking part this year then organisers are keen to stress that they are always looking for people to volunteer, they say: "You get free lunch on the day and free entry to next year's event (or equivalent Wee Run Events event) get in touch if you can help out!"
