Lead The Way In 2026
With opportunities available across the country, the start of 2026 could be the perfect time to learn new skills and help others experience the benefits of running...
Runners across Scotland are being encouraged to start 2026 by giving something back to the sport, with a series of jogscotland Jog Leader courses taking place in locations around the country in the early months of the year.
The Leadership in Running Fitness course offers an accessible and inspiring route into becoming a jogscotland Jog Leader, whether by setting up a new jogging group or supporting an existing one. The course is designed to help more people discover the joy of running, with jog leaders often playing a key role at the very start of someone’s running journey.
Delivered through blended learning, the course combines four online modules with a half day practical session, making it flexible and manageable alongside work and other commitments. As 2026 gets underway, opportunities to take part are available in several locations, including Glasgow on 1 February and 25 April, Grangemouth on 22 February, Aberdeen on 28 February, Kilmarnock on 8 March and Dunfermline on 29 March.
You do not need to be super fit to become a jog leader. In fact, many of the most effective leaders are those who were beginners themselves not so long ago and understand the challenges of starting out. Enthusiasm and a supportive attitude are far more important qualities, helping to create a welcoming environment where people feel encouraged to get active at their own pace.
Jog Leader with Glasgow Frontrunners, Fraser Brown, told us: "The best moment of being a Jog Leader is when someone comes up to you after a run and says, 'thanks for sticking with me and not leaving me behind. I ran faster with you than I ever would on my own'. It’s those moments that make it all worthwhile. Knowing that you help others to get out and run when they might not feel confident to do it themselves is hugely gratifying!"
After successfully completing the course and receiving a Jog Leader licence card from scottishathletics, participants will be qualified to lead safe, fun and inclusive jogging sessions within the jogscotland network.
