Milngavie Trail Race

Be Prepared for Milngavie Trail Race

Scouts promise challenging trails, cake and more cake at their summer trail race...

Entries are open for this year's Milngavie Trail Race, a challenging event based around the ‘wild and beautiful trails’ of the West Highland Way and Mugdock Country Park. The race, organised by 20th Glasgow (1st Milngavie) Scout Group, will be held on 2 June.

The race starts and finishes at the group's headquarters and takes runners out through some very scenic and challenging terrain. The fully marked, signposted and marshalled route will be a mix of hard trails, single track and unmade ground – but there will be no water or feed stations on the course. It remains the runners’ responsibility to carry any water or food that they will require for the duration of the approximately 8.4 mile long event.

Any funds raised will go towards much needed improvements and repairs to the Scout Hall and its grounds and to purchase new equipment to provide activities and fun for its 190 young members.

All finishers will receive a medal and as much tea, coffee and cake as they can eat! Prizes will be awarded to overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in both Male and Female events and the overall winners of the Senior Male and Female categories will be presented with the Milngavie Scout Staffs for safe keeping. There will be a selection of great spot prizes and did we mention the cake?

In 2023 the race was won by Paul Murphy in 52:40 while first female was Nicola Dawson of Westerlands Cross Country Club in 1:07:05. The current course records are held by Del Young (male) who clocked a time of 52:10 in 2016 and Katie White (female) who ran 57:42 in 2019.
