ASICS Windermere Marathon

Bag A Last Chance Entry At Brathay

One of the very few marathons run entirely within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ASICS Windermere Marathon stands out as a unique event on the northern race circuit. Anyone looking to take part in such a historic setting will need to get their skates on – entries for the 2018 staging close next Wednesday (16 May).

The event was originally staged from 1982-1986 before the Brathay Trust revived the race in 2007. Highlighting some of the Lake District’s most stunning scenery, the course passes through the picturesque village of Hawkshead, towards Newby Bridge at the southern end of Windermere.

Runners then head back to Brathay Hall passing through cheering crowds in Bowness and Waterhead. The race ends on the front lawn of Brathay Hall, where a fantastic atmosphere awaits at the finish line.

The upcoming race, scheduled for Sunday 20 May, will be one of the biggest yet with organisers announcing that it is already received its third highest level of entries and the biggest number since 2010.

It also looks set to be an emotionally charged occasion coming shortly after the death of Matt Campbell, who sadly passed away while competing at London Marathon. Matt had been raising money for the Brathay Trust, and, since London, over £355,000 has been donated to his Justgiving page.

Registration for the 2018 ASICS Windermere Marathon is available here.
