Alloa's Beautiful Challenge
Clackmannanshire race returns with scenic course and ‘character-building’ challenge...
The Alloa Half Marathon is set to return on 16 March, promising runners a fast, scenic course along the breathtaking foot of the Ochil Hills. Known for its long, flat stretches and gentle undulations, the route is a favorite among both competitive runners and those looking to challenge themselves.
A defining feature of the race is the infamous 11-mile hill, a section that has earned a reputation as both loved and feared by past participants. While this stretch tests endurance, the rest of the course offers PB potential, as demonstrated by the course records - Tsegezab Woldemichael's 1:04:51 (male) and Sandra Branney's female record of 1:13:19.
The race starts and finishes at Lornshill Academy, providing a well-supported event hub with refreshments and snacks available throughout the day. All finishers will receive a t-shirt and medal, a well-earned reward for conquering the 13.1 mile challenge.
2024's race saw over 1,800 runners take on the course, with standout performances from the top finishers -Cameron Milne – 1:07:37 and Katrine Kelly – 1:20:55.
Organisers say: "With its stunning scenery, well-organised setup, and iconic 11-mile climb, the Alloa Half Marathon remains a must-run event for both seasoned athletes and newcomers looking for a rewarding challenge."
