Happy families at the Fen Gallop
There was a race to suit everyone from the very young to the more mature runner.
Age wasn’t an issue at Sunday’s Fen Gallop (3 July) with all the generations catered for in the 10K, 4 Mile and kids runs. Runners made the most of a scenic multi-terrain route and the attractive wooden medal and post-race nectarines at this inclusive event.
Willingham in Cambridgeshire was the location for the Fen Gallop that saw people of all abilities take part in a well organised and welcoming event and in decent weather too. Dry and warm but not too warm. Just perfect for the field.
A safety briefing at 10.10am was followed by the start of the 10K at 10.20am: there was another safety briefing for the 4 Mile runners at 10.30am who were sent on their way at 10.40am. Participants were treated to a pretty, rural course that contained narrow and wide sections on a mixture of footpaths, bridleways, country roads, fields and woodland.
Martin Amos of Hunts AC won the 10K in 33:56 followed by George Seymour of West End Runners in 34:07. Fred Krylander of Cambridge & Coleridge AC took third place in 34:20.
March AC’s Kanina O’Neill was the female winner in 40:42. Alison Stewart of Hunts AC was the second female in 42:07 and Alice Brear Clarkson of East Down AC third in 43:04.
For the 4 Mile, Oliver Wilson of Bedford and County AC was the winner in 24:25; Amelie Crawford the female winner in 31:12.

After the 10K and 4 Mile were the Kids 1 Mile Race and under 5’s Mini Sprint as part of a Family Fun Day. There was a BBQ, refreshments and a bar for everyone to enjoy and replace those lost calories!
All proceeds from the Fen Gallop go to the Willingham School Association and various youth groups.
