Cheadle 4 ready for running up that hill
The climb at half way will be alive to the sound of pounding feet at this tough 4 mile race.
The countdown is on to the Cheadle 4 which takes place this Sunday at 10.30am after the Junior Fun Run at 10am. NSRRA runners will be battling for points whereas others will be happy to finish at this well established and challenging race in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Race 10 in the NSRRA League Programme, the Cheadle 4 is held on local roads apart from the start and finish which is an open grassy area at the local recreation ground. One of two races from Cheadle RC, the other their Spring 5, it attracts a good turnout of runners from local clubs who like to test themselves on the up and down course.
This is an event where you need your climbing legs as there is a long pull at Mile 2 up Freehay Road which is a test of grit and fortitude. It is a case of settle in for the duration (or over a mile!).
However, what goes up has to come down. The ascent is followed by a long downhill which gets the legs turning over at speed then the final stretch back to the recreation ground and the finish. The reward is a bottle of beer or a non-alcoholic alternative which is perfect, post-race refreshment after the big hill.
There are prizes for the top three men and women and the first veteran male and female in all age groups. Moorland Pottery mugs will be presented to NSRRA group winners.
Temperatures are forecast to rise over the next few days and possibly reach 30 degrees by next week. It is fine, dry and warm this Sunday making it ideal for a good race and a cold beer.
