Last call to board ABP Southampton Marathon!

Next Friday (15 March) marks 50 days to go for up to 10,000 runners in the ABP Southampton Marathon but there is an even greater imperative for any late entrants as the registration deadline has been brought forward to Sunday 24 March due to excessive demand.

The fifth ABP Southampton Marathon is on Sunday 5 May 2019 and organisers are hoping the Bank Holiday weekend date will encourage runners to stay over to soak up all the charms of this great maritime city, home to the SeaCity Museum with an interactive model of the Titanic and the Solent Sky Museum with vintage aircraft like the Spitfire.

It is estimated that ABP Southampton Marathon attracts around 30,000 spectators every spring and last year an estimated £1m was spent in the city as a result of the event. More than £750,000 has been raised to date for various causes, including lead charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Southampton Hospital Charity.

ABP Southampton Marathon features a marathon, half marathon, 10k and a children's fun run. All races start and finish in the heart of Southampton’s city centre, with the course taking in iconic local landmarks including the Bargate, Itchen Bridge, Weston Shore, Riverside Park and the Common before a stunning finish by Guildhall in the city centre.

Nikki Rees, managing director for ABP Southampton Marathon said: “With spaces for the marathon filling up quickly, we have decided to bring the deadline for registration forward to Sunday 24 March or when the entry limits are reached. We are delighted that people love the event so much and are eager to get involved this year as it is going to be the biggest year yet. Make sure you are signed up by 24 March to guarantee yourself a place on 5 May!"
