Allan Scally Memorial Relays

Last few days for Allan Scally Road Relay entries

Places still available for historic team challenge

Only a few days remain for clubs, friends and corporate teams to book their places in one of Scotland’s most historic road races.

The 51st edition of the Allan Scally Memorial Road Relay is set to take place on Saturday, 5 March at Glasgow Green.

The format of the race is a 4 x 5K relay on an IAAF-certified, traffic free course, making it perfect for runners of all standards.

This year’s event also incorporates the Scottish Students Road Relay Championships, and for the first time, a wheelchair event in the main race.

According to Race Director John Mackay, the Allan Scally Memorial Relay is ‘one of the few classic races left on our sporting calendar’, and has attracted ‘the cream of Scottish and other nations’ teams’ over the 50 years of its existence.

The event honours the memory of Allan Scally (b. 1904), a former world 10 mile champion and coach for Shettleston Harriers

A record field of 166 teams took part in the event in 2020. This year’s event is also expected to attract teams from Scotland and further afield, including previous men’s winners Edinburgh AC and ladies’ winners – and host club – Shettleston Harriers.

With strong support from local businesses, the prize pot remains one of the most generous in the racing calendar. A total of £1500 in cash awards and £180 in vouchers will be up for grabs.

Entries close next Thursday, 3 March at 12 noon. Team members do not need to be declared until later this week, or even on the day if necessary.
