McColgan takes another Radcliffe record

21-year-old British half marathon record falls to Scot

With her unbelievable form continuing, Scotland’s Eilish McColgan set another new personal best and British record at the weekend.

The Scot crossed the line at the Ras Al Khaimah Women’s Half Marathon in the United Arab Emirates in 1.06.26. Her sixth placed finish shaved 21 seconds off the British record of 1.06.47, held by running legend Paula Radcliffe for 21 years.

In besting Radcliffe’s British mark in only her second competitive half marathon, the 31 year old also took down her mother’s best time of 1.07.11.

After the race, Eilish’s proud mother – and coach – Liz McColgan commented on her daughter breaking yet another ‘family record’, saying ‘at least it took a BRITISH record to get it’.

The half-marathon mark is the third record McColgan has recently taken from Radcliffe. In October 2021, McColgan took nearly 30 seconds off Radcliffe’s 10-mile record in her third victory at the Great South Run.  In August of the same year McColgan busted Radcliffe’s 5000m record with a 14.28.55 run in Oslo.

Having also recorded a new 5K personal best of 14.48 in Dubai earlier this month, speculation is growing about when – not if – Radcliffe’s British marathon record of 2.15.25 will also fall to the triple Olympian.
