Thumbs Up For Scottish Half
We look at the race action from the weekend's Scottish Half Marathon...
More than 4000 runners descended on East Lothian’s ‘Golf Coast’ on Sunday to take part in this year's Scottish Half Marathon and 10K. The popular event has proved the perfect race for those looking to set a PB thanks to the 'seriously flat and rapid route' and this year was no different.
Starting just outside of Edinburgh, runners headed along the magnificent East Lothian Golf Coast before finishing in the final furlong at Musselburgh Racecourse; Scotland’s oldest racecourse. The day was a true reflection of a Scottish summer with runners competing in conditions that included sun, wind and rain.
Commenting on Facebook after the race, Jon McKay said: "I had such a great day yesterday, massive thanks to everyone involved. The route was lovely, the transport worked perfectly, the community support was amazing, the rain stayed away and I beat my target time of 1:45. Couldn't really have asked for more for my first official half marathon experience. Although if you could sort out the wind for next year, that'd be much appreciated."
There were thousands of runners in this year's Half Marathon but it was Luca Fanottoli of Central Athletics Club who claimed victory in 1:08:38. Second place went to Eddie Narbett (Carnethy Hill RC) in 1:08:52 and Samuel Jinks of Highgate Harriers was third in 1:09:58.
Kevin Campbell was fourth, in a time of 01:11:19, despite wearing a full bear costume including a large head with eyeholes so that he could see the course in front of him – with neon running shoes finishing off the ensemble.
In the women's race it was Jessica Watson of Edinburgh AC who won in 1:18:37. It was Grace Tindall of Central Athletics Club who was second in 1:21:07 and Kirsty Oldham completed the podium in 1:22:07.
