Yorkshire staff top of the charts

Staff from Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate have been announced as the top performers in the Yorkshire Marathon Relay competition. The relay is a popular feature of the Asda Foundation Yorkshire Marathon, staged last month and which once again drew in a fantastic turnout of over 10,000 runners.

The relay event breaks the 26.2 miles into six legs ranging from 3 miles to 6.1 miles and is open to business professionals, sports clubs, associations and groups of friends.

Nearly 100 teams took part in the competition with Team Rosie Lee from Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate securing first place in the open category clocking a time of 2:55:15. Sano Physiotherapy took second place in 3:00:49 with Arthrex Male Team finishing third in a time of 3:07:50.

Yorkshire Cat Rescue triumphed in the female category with a time of 3:53:06. The Tea Ladies from Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate clocked 3:55:24 to take second place with Clifton Green Primary School supporting Mbedza Projects Support coming third in 4:12:05.

Georgia Featherstone, Partnerships Manager with race organiser Run For All, said: “It was fantastic to see so many teams taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon Relay. It brings some friendly competition to the run while giving people the opportunity to experience the wonderful marathon day atmosphere, without having to run the whole 26.2 miles.”

The 2019 staging of the Marathon was the first time the event played host to the British Masters Athletic Federation’s marathon championships. Elite athletes in the race were competing for a total cash prize pot of £10,000 and first across the finish line in 2019 was Mark Buckingham in a time of 2:21:42, with Charlene Jacobs-Conradie top in the female field in in 2:46:50.
