Trees not tees at Windsor this year
The countdown is on with two months to go to the big Windsor weekend
The Copper Horse is one of the essential selfie stops that might add a few seconds to your time for the scenic Windsor Half Marathon. The countdown is well and truly on to this autumn classic now that the medals and T-shirts have arrived. The last Sunday in September is the date to note – 25th September this year – for the perfect fine-tuning run for TCS London Marathon seven days later.
The rescheduled London event has put greater emphasis on early autumn half marathons and for runABC South readers, the Windsor Great Park location is just perfect. The start and finish are on the spectacular Long Walk with the splendour of Windsor Castle as the backdrop.
Windsor Half Marathon follows one day after the ever-popular Windsor Womens 10K on Saturday 24th September, so you can make a full weekend of it, with entry fees pegged at the usual early bird prices right up to race day – see our announcement of this offer here.
Last year's winner of Windsor Womens 10K was five-time Olympian Jo Pavey (Exeter Harriers, 36;19) and there were 821 finishers in 1:45:37. The half marathon victors were Paulos Surafel (Thames Valley Harriers, 1:05:08) and W40 Lesley Locks (Aldershot, Farnham & District, 1:21:33) as 1,942 experienced the thrilling swoop down Long Walk to the finish.
This year's competitors in both events can choose to receive a free commemorative finisher's T-shirt or plant five trees to help tackle climate change thanks to a dynamic partnership with Ecologi – targeting 5,000 trees planted to reduce carbon emissions.
Entrants will also benefit from a new partnership with Booking Protect, who claim to offer the world's most flexible and comprehensive refund protection cover.
Previous race results and reports can be viewed at runABC South race listing here for the Windsor Womens 10K and here for Windsor Half Marathon.
