Jamie's Foundation Launch Run For The 96 5K

Free training sessions for Run For The 96 5K

New and returning runners are invited to free, weekly training sessions as preparation for the Run For The 96 5K on Saturday 11 May. This event pays tribute to the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough.

Now in its fifth year, Run For The 96 5K takes place in Stanley Park, located between Anfield Stadium (Liverpool FC) and Goodison Park (Everton FC). The event was launched in 2015 to celebrate the lives of the 96 fans whilst remembering their families and the survivors who have fought for justice since.

The training sessions are aimed at people looking to get fit and active as well as those who haven’t run for some time. They will be held at the following times in three locations: Saturday mornings at 11am in Stanley Park, Monday and Thursdays from 5pm to 5.45pm in Speke and Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 6pm in Liverpool City Centre.

The event is supported by Everton in the Community, Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation, LFC Foundation and Stanley Park CIC. These four causes are committed to ensuring local communities benefit from the 5K and will, in turn, receive donations and funds raised by the runners.

Run For The 96 5K is organised by BTR Liverpool and race director Alan Rothwell emphasises the community ethos of this event, saying: “If you need extra encouragement to get out there for a run or you’d like to try running for the first time, come along to the training sessions which will help you to the start line on the 11 May.”
