Aberdeenshire Trails Or Aberdeen Tarmac Tonight?
Runners in Aberdeen City and Shire looking for a mid-week race have had a difficult decision to make this week with two of the region’s most popular summer club-run events being held tonight (Tuesday 5 June).
For runners who fancy a trot along the Granite City’s coastal promenades, Metro Aberdeen’s Beach 10K Fun Run will start on the Beach Esplanade at 7pm. Open to all standard of runners, especially beginners, the route is flat, accurate and free of road crossings.
There will be prizes for the first three male and female runners, plus lots of spot prizes at the finish. The race is limited to 400 pre-booked entries (now closed).
Previous times have been fairly quick, with last year’s male and females winners clocking 32.47 (Michael O’Donnell, Inverness Harriers) and 35.20 (Nicola Gauld, AAAC) respectively.
For runners who’d rather get their trail shoes dirty, the second edition of the Krunce series, organised by the Cosmic Hillbashers, starts from the the Tyrebagger Sculptures car park at South Kirkhill Forest, off the A96.
Four miles long and with 740ft of elevation, the two-lap route is entirely off-road. The race starts at 7pm, with all entries processed on the night. At a cost of just £1, there are no prizes or medals – just that very particular satisfaction that comes from squeezing in a race on a school night!
