60 Years Young!
One of Scotland's oldest events returns on Easter Sunday for its 60th outing...
Entries are now open for one of Scotland's most enduring events - the Tom Scott Memorial Road Races. This year will see the races celebrate their 60th anniversary on 31 March at their traditional home of Strathclyde Park.
The event will once again see hundreds travel from far and wide to take part in one of two races - the 10 Mile Championship race and the Round the Loch. Both races take place over a fast, flat route on the paths around Strathclyde Park Loch.
The 10 Mile race is notoriously fast, frequently recording some of the best 10 Mile times in the UK for the calendar year and featuring prominently in the end of year rankings. The 10 Mile race has hosted the Scottish National 10 Mile Championships for many years, and has once again been awarded this status in 2024.
The Round the Loch is a run over approximately 6K dedicated to those who prefer a slightly shorter distance - from serious club runners to those simply looking for their next challenge!
The first race was held in 1962, to keep alive the memory of Tom Scott, a member of Motherwell YMCA Harriers. Scott was killed in a car accident the year before while travelling to take part in the Doncaster to Sheffield Marathon. He was just 29 years old.
Since the event’s inception, the Tom Scott Memorial Road Races have become a veritable ‘who’s who’ of Scottish middle and long distance running, with Olympic, European and Commonwealth level athletes all taking part in, and winning, the main event.
