Popular 10K series sees Early Bird offer extended until the end of the month...

The Babcock 10K Series has already attracted more than 300 runners across the three race series with over four months to go until the first race, the Shettleston 10K on Glasgow Green on Sunday 12 May. The Dumbarton 10K will follow on Thursday 23 May and the final race of the series will see runners head to Helensburgh on Thursday 30 May.

Series Chairman, Kevin Johnson is delighted with the response to the ‘Early Bird’ offer which provided series entrants £5 off their entry fee and so it has been decided that the offer will be extended until midnight on 31 January.

There is exciting news for runners in the Helensburgh race as it will be hosting the West District 10K Championships for men, women and all age groups. Medals will be awarded in all age group categories.

All of last year’s winners have been invited to defend their titles which means that Shettleston’s Daniel Bradford is expected to line up in Helensburgh alongside Dumbarton’s, Sophie Canty. Taha Ghafari, the Iranian Kurdish refugee, representing Shettleston Harriers came within 14 seconds of the Dumbarton course record last year whilst Inverclyde’s Nynke Mulholland impressed in dipping under 36 minutes.

Gateshead’s Calum Johnson set a new course record of 29:45 in last year’s Shettleston race and Dundee’s, Natasha Phillips set a new series record of 32:57 whilst producing the fastest under 20 time in the UK, for almost 30 years. Scottish Champion John Bell has also been invited back.

Every finisher will receive a unique commemorative medal in each race, together with a different item of Start Fitness running merchandise. Competitors have the chance to win more than £6,000 in cash or Start Fitness vouchers for running equipment.

It is of interest to note that the Shettleston race also includes a 2K Family Fun Run on a traffic free course on Glasgow Green. A great way to involve the whole family in a healthy and fun activity.
