Preston 10 Mile Runners

Still Time To Party In Preston

Entry deadline date is fast approaching for the Porsche Centre Preston 10 Mile…

If you’re up for a challenge at the end of the month then hurry up because entries for the Porsche Centre Preston 10 Mile Road Race close on at midnight on 14 November.

Taking place just a week later on 21 November the event is back with a new sponsor and an improved course. Organisers, Preston Harriers, are confident that the 10 miler is gearing up to be a great race. Once again, the race incorporates the Northern Athletics, Lancashire County and Fire Service 10 mile championships.

The new course, which some believe is faster than the previous one, will follow roughly the same route but the troublesome dogleg which has caused so much trouble in the past is no more!

The race itself, in its 39th running, is steeped in history and its heyday would see fields of up to 1,000 with runners required to break the 60 minute barrier just to make the top 100. A new course gives the chance for new course records and who knows what this year could bring?

There are some excellent runners already in the mix, at the front end of the field are Chris Prior of Cardiff AC, Chris Livesey and David Rigby of Salford Harriers. Representing Preston Harriers will be Andy Benson, who is looking to retain his first Harrier home trophy, but could face some stiff competition from newcomer Sam Evans.

For the ladies, Sophie Cowper of Rotherham Harriers looks to be unchallenged at this stage, however there’s still time for a surprise!

With the decision to organise a 5 mile timed and measured run alongside the main race this year, there are some interesting entries, with David Devine, Thomas Rogerson and Alistair Rutherford of Liverpool Harriers set to toe the line alongside Preston Harriers up-and-coming youngster Luke Suffolk.

If you want to test yourself against other runners, and the clock, then head to the event website to sign up.
