The Wild One

Go Wild This Summer

If it's fun you're looking for in a race, you can't go wrong with this Worcestershire multi-lap event...

Embrace your wild side at this off-road, multi-lap marathon event that returns to the Worcestershire countryside in July this year. The Wild One will take place on 21 July and is open to solos, pairs and teams with the aim of completing 10 x 2.62 mile loops for a marathon around a combination of grass, wooded trails and tarmac.

Race HQ is Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester where there is on-site parking available, a bar and bouncy castle for kids. Speaking of kids there is a Wild Mile for the youngsters for which entry is £3.50 and includes a medal reward for all finishers.

At the other end of the scale, and for those of you who would like to go further, there is the option of the Ultra Wild One where runners can continue on to see how many laps can be completed within a 7 hour cut off period. Those taking part in this challenge will still receive a finish time for the marathon as well as a record of the number of laps completed.

This is a fantastic event to bring the whole family along to due to the aforementioned bouncy castle, but also due to the fancy dress aspect of the day. Organisers say: "This year’s fancy dress theme is 'Circus'. Fancy dress is optional but we hope people enter into the spirit of this event."

Speaking about the history of the event organisers say: "Stuart Wild was a long-standing member of Black Pear Joggers and well-known marathon runner. He had begun to organise the race with fellow runner Gavin Paskin when he suddenly passed away in March 2013. Gavin continued ahead with the event and it was agreed it would be renamed in tribute to Stuart.

"The inaugural event was held in July 2013, titled the ‘Stuart Wild Memorial Race’. We had great support from everyone, including Black Pear Joggers and Malvern Joggers, many with great fancy dress costumes. The race went down so well, the club had lots asking when the next one would be."

The race continues to raise funds for Worcester-based charities including Worcestershire Community Trust, Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club and St. Paul's Hostel. All those taking part will receive a bespoke medal and goody bag. There will also be prizes for fastest marathon times, best fancy dress and fastest lap.
