Bank Holiday Bonanza!
There are more than 40 events to choose from this Spring Bank Holiday weekend...
It's a Bank Holiday bonanza for ultra runners this weekend as long-distance runners hope to take advantage of some rather 'useable' weather over this Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
A glance at runABC South's race listing section reveals more than 40 events and with race distances available from 3K to 145 miles there's something for everyone to select from.
You could start your weekend early in the West Country with the popular City Runs 4 x 4K Run Exe Relays at Exeter or the Great Western Runners 10K Towpath Series Mob Match at Bristol – both are on Friday night (24 May).
On Saturday (25 May) over 2,000 adventurers will tackle the classic London 2 Brighton Ultra Challenge. The original 100K Capital to Coast route starts at Richmond-upon-Thames and finishes at Brighton, with options to complete three-quarters, half, or a quarter of the course.
If 100K feels like a warm-up jog to serious ultraruners, how about 145 miles – uphill? This year's Grand Union Canal Ultra takes the 'uphill' route from Little Venice, London to Gas Street Basin, Birmingham run entirely on the waymarked Grand Union Canal Towpath.
This is a big weekend for women with Pretty Muddy and Race for Life events at Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire; Clapham Park, London; Basingstoke, Hampshire and Eastbourne, Sussex. These events and more raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK and you can find future events near you here...
Males are not forgotten as they have Race For Men in the picturesque city of Salisbury, Wiltshire on Sunday (26 May). Race For Men is a family festival and sporting event that features multi-terrain running events from 3K to half marathon, a mixed 5-a-side football competition, live music, family entertainment, delicious food, and a licensed bar. The event raises awareness and funds for the Stars Appeal Prostate Cancer and Urology fund, and this year's event hopes to break through the £100K mark.
All events are on the runABC South race listing here.
