Running up to speed at Lincoln 5K Series
There were fast performances on Tuesday evening (30 July) at the Lincoln Wellington 5K Series Event 3 as runners young and old pushed to their limits for a PB.
This was the third race in the Lincoln Wellington 5K Series, a popular annual fixture that attracts elite athletes and everyday road runners alike. They are drawn to the fast, flat course at Yarborough Leisure Centre – the base for host club Lincoln Wellington AC, one of the biggest track and field clubs in the area.
The 5K series is held on four separate Tuesdays - 28 May, 25 June, 30 July and 27 August and also includes 1K and 3K races. New for this year was the Memory Mile with £1 from each entry fee donated to the Alzheimer’s Society. Entrants must complete at least three races to in the series win a prize.
Start times were 6.30pm for the 1K and 3K races – open to youngsters, the Memory Mile at 7pm followed by the 5K at 7.30pm. There have been good turnouts at Events 1 and 2 and the organisers hoped for the same at Event 3. They were not disappointed.
The weather was fine and dry as the runners warmed up ready for a mad dash at the start. They were in a fiercely competitive mood as they completed this penultimate race: there is only one more to go before cash prizes are awarded to the 5K series 1st/2nd/3rd male and female, vets age category winners and the Memory Mile and 3K series 1st/2nd/3rd male and female.
Results from Event 1 and 2 are available on the Lincoln Wellington AC website. Those from Event 3 will appear shortly.
