Marathon Eryri is one of the UK's most distinctive marathons, following a spectacular course around Yr Wyddfa in Eryri National Park. First held as the Snowdonia Marathon in 1982, the race starts just outside Llanberis and journeys through the surrounding mountain landscape before finishing back in the village.
The demanding marathon route climbs through Llanberis Pass to Pen y Pass before descending towards Beddgelert and continuing on to Waunfawr. Runners then face a steep late climb to around 1,200ft at Bwlch y Groes before the final descent into Llanberis. The course is predominantly on road, with short sections of farm track and unmetalled surface adding to the challenge.
Renowned for its dramatic mountain scenery and demanding profile, the race has become a longstanding fixture of the UK marathon calendar. The combination of sustained climbs, fast descents and support from communities around the route creates a memorable challenge through the heart of Eryri.
