Three seconds separated Wallasey AC clubmates Joseph Boden and Oliver Chadwick at the front of Sunday's BTR Wirral 10K, but there were another 1,189 runners celebrating their own achievements along the New Brighton seafront.

The 13th edition attracted 1,191 finishers as the popular race returned to a start and finish on King's Parade beside The Dips for the first time since 2021.

Boden took victory in 31:59, with Chadwick just three seconds behind in 32:02. Elliot Clayton of Warrington AC completed the men's podium in 33:09.

The two Wallasey runners have enjoyed quite a year. They also finished first and second at April's Mersey Tunnel 10K, while Boden won the Port Sunlight 5K and Chadwick took the Port Sunlight 10K in June.

The women's race was another close contest, with Bethany Ord winning in 37:51, just eight seconds ahead of Vale Royal AC's Harriet Jones. Naomi Alleyne of Wirral AC was third in 38:23.

For the wider field, the revised course provided a fast and fairly flat journey along the waterfront. Runners passed the boating lake and Fort Perch Rock before following the promenade towards Seacombe Ferry, turning at halfway for the return to New Brighton.

Spectators lined the route to encourage runners chasing personal bests, completing their first 10K or simply enjoying another morning of racing beside the Mersey.

The event brought BTR Liverpool's competitive racing programme for 2026 to a close, with the organisers now turning their attention to December's Liverpool Santa Dash.

For 1,191 runners, however, Sunday was all about reaching that finish line beside The Dips.
