Sunderland Is Going Back To The Seaside
Sunderland 10K returns to Roker on 29 November after more than 1,600 runners completed the inaugural race last year...
This relates to: Sunderland 10K November
Sunderland discovered a sizeable appetite for a late-November 10K last year. Now the seaside race is coming back for another helping of Roker sea air on Sunday 29 November.
More than 1,600 runners finished the inaugural Sunderland 10K in 2025, establishing the event as a substantial addition to the North East calendar at its first attempt. It also provided a fairly authentic introduction to late-autumn running on Wearside, with competitors reporting cold temperatures and a stiff coastal wind.
The RunThrough event returns to Pier Point on Marine Walk for 2026, with a 9:00am start and a road course built around the Roker seafront. Runners head away from the beach on an out-and-back journey before the closing stages take them through historic Roker Park and back towards the finish.
RunThrough describes the course as PB-friendly, although anyone who raced last November will know that the North Sea can have its own ideas about fast running. The organiser lists 87m of elevation, with chip timing, kilometre markers and free race photography included.
This year's Sunderland 10K is also in support of Children's Cancer North, the charity dedicated to supporting children with cancer and their families across the region.
Perhaps the most convincing endorsement of Sunderland's new November date is simply that it is back. A first running attracting more than 1,600 finishers gave the race a strong start; on 29 November, Roker gets to do it all again.
