Snow Running

This Race Is Snow Joke!

This race offers the unforgettable experience of running through Scotland’s winter mountains...

Snow Running returns to Glenshee on 28 February, offering runners the rare chance to race across snow under the fading light of a winter's evening.

First staged in 2022, the event has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most distinctive fixtures in the UK hill running calendar. Last year’s edition delivered a true winter mix of terrain including snow, ice, rock and even a notorious boggy stretch that left plenty of competitors smiling at the finish. That sense of variety and adventure is exactly what keeps runners coming back.

The race takes place on a hill circuit around Glenshee Ski Centre, using compact piste snow and mountain trails as the route winds through sunset and into the winter night. Participants can choose between a long course of 11.5K with 950m of climb or a shorter 6.5K option featuring 500m of ascent, making the event accessible to a range of abilities.

Designed to be both challenging and fun, Snow Running appeals to those who want to experience the magic of moving through snowy hills at night as well as competitive mountain runners chasing podium places. A strict time limit operates on the longer course to ensure safety, and all runners are expected to be properly trained, well equipped and experienced in mountain conditions.

Prizes will be awarded to the first male and female finishers in each category, but for many the real reward is the unforgettable experience of running through Scotland’s winter mountains under a darkening sky.
