Easter On The Beach
Popular South Shields 10K is the perfect way to start the Easter holidays this year...
Runners in the North East are gearing up for the Sand Dancer 10K, set to take place on 13 April this year. Known as one of the most scenic race routes in the region, the event promises stunning coastal views and a vibrant atmosphere, all the while supporting a local cause.
The race, which kicks off outside the Sand Dancer pub, follows the South Shields parkrun route, offering panoramic views of the North Sea and golden beaches. Runners will complete their challenge with a lap around one of the last remaining imperial running tracks in the UK.
The event features a 10K route for seniors, as well as a 3K race for juniors and a 1.4K run for minors, ensuring a day of fun for all ages. There are even Easter eggs for the younger participants! Organisers commented: "We fully appreciate this is the start of the Easter Holidays but April is a busy month for running and includes some lesser events, such as the London Marathon so we had to squeeze the Sand Dancer in somewhere!"
Every runner will receive a medal, water and a snack, while senior participants will also take home a custom-designed buff. This year’s buff design pays tribute to the historic Tyne Lifeboat, South Shields’ famous maritime rescue vessel, which saved over 1,000 mariners in the 19th century. Designed by local South Shields Harrier Ryan Stewart, the buff highlights the borough’s proud lifeboat heritage.
In keeping with this year’s theme, South Shields Harriers & AC will make a charitable donation to the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB), recognising the incredible service they provide to the local community.
