Salcey Trail Run and Canicross

New Year On The Trails

Salcey Forest is the venue for this trail run and canicross extravaganza...

A former medieval hunting forest nestled in the Northamptonshire countryside is the stunning location for January's Salcey Trail Run and Canicross which is set to take place on Sunday 14 January. The magnificent woodland is a perfect location to run on your own or with your dog over your chosen distance in a delightful location all while supporting Forestry England.

The course takes in many miles of ancient wood banks, building remains and ancient trees. The ‘druids’, or veteran oaks, are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are over 600 years old. What better place to hunt down a trail run?

There are four entry options: 7K trail run, 7K canicross run, 14K trail run and a half marathon. Runners complete one lap for 7K, two laps for 14K and three laps for the half marathon on a mainly flat and sheltered route consisting of hard packed trails and some grass – probably mud too if this rain continues! Think carefully about shoe choice and go for something with plenty of grip.

Canicross athletes go first at 9.30am followed by the rest of the field at 9.45am. There's a water station at the end of the first lap and more water available at the end for the benefit of human and canine finishers.
Also at end is a bespoke themed medal along with snacks.
