A Dram Good Race
This weekend will see runners return to Speyside for the sell-out Dramathon...
Whisky-loving runners will be in their element this weekend as Speyside's Dramathon makes its return on Saturday (15 October). This unique trail event sends runners through the beautiful landscapes and whisky-making heritage of Speyside, with the added bonus of single malt miniatures for all entrants.
The Dramathon was dreamed up by Jon Dunderdale and Ian King over a dram or two. They tell us: "We are running and single malt enthusiasts (one of us is better at running, the other is better at whisky). We aim to create an event which is well-put together and professionally organised, but that retains a sense of humour, a chilled-out atmosphere, is inclusive, and great value for money."
This year's Dramathon is sponsored by Speyside malts including Glenfiddich, Ballindalloch, Cragganmore, Cardhu, Tomatin, Glenfarclas, Tamdhu and The Balvenie - those taking part can certainly expect a 'dram' good selection of miniatures in their goody bags then!
The full marathon starts at Glenfarclas Distillery, the half marathon near Tamdhu Distillery and the 10K in the heart of whisky country itself, Aberlour. The routes run mostly along the scenic Speyside Way, with the marathoners getting the pleasure of a detour though the grounds of Ballindalloch Castle before all three distances converge near the finish line which is located at the premises of the main sponsors, Glenfiddich Distillery.
Over 800 runners took part in the various events which made up last year's Dramathon, including marathon, half marathon, 10K and relay races. Jonathan Gamble of Metro Aberdeen (2:49:54) collected first prize in the feature marathon men's race and Heather Darling of Portobello RC (3:34:52) was fastest lady.
