Flying along the runway at the Leicestershire Half Marathon

Leicestershire Half nearly ready for take off

Annual event returns to its February date.

It’s a little over two weeks to the Leicestershire Half Marathon (Sunday 27 February) where once again, runners will complete 13.1 miles on a mixture of roads, racetrack and airfield. There is a new medal for finishers to add to their collection along with post-event snacks.

You can look forward to a traffic-free course which is always a vote winner. It starts at 9.30am from outside Prestwold Hall which is also the site for the finish and there are distance flags at every mile and plenty of marshals.

The route includes Wymeswold Airfield, a former World War II RAF Station now used for driver experience training and this half marathon plus the 10K in April. From the sounds of Wellington bombers to the echo of pounding feet as they fly across this flat surface before heading out on undulating country roads around attractive villages in the surrounding area. Participants need to be aware of some uneven sections on the airfield and if it is windy, grit their teeth in exposed parts.

There is a medal, race goodies and free photos.

RunThrough like many organisers are aware of environmental issues surrounding mass participation events and, in response, have implemented the following: BPA free plastic bottles which are 100% recyclable, ethically sourced clothing, paper-free admin and biodegradable packaging.

This event has ACTIPH water bottles for finishers which are both recyclable and reusable.

There are still places so enter now at the Leicestershire Half Marathon website.
