Putting the heart into running at the Valentine's 10K

Big hearted Valentine’s 10K

A flat and friendly race that extended a helping hand to Scunthorpe Foodbank.

William Shakespeare said: “The course of true love did never run smooth” but Tape 2 Tape Events romantic themed 10K was a well oiled machine. Their Run Your Heart Out Valentine’s 10K (Sunday 13 February) left everyone feeling loved up and possibly full up thanks to the finish line cupcakes.

Not the pleasantest of conditions for this environmentally-friendly road race, open to runners of all abilities and on a PB potential course.  Sunday saw grey skies, wind and rain over Quibell Park in Scunthorpe as over 1,000 participants and stalwart volunteers made it a day to remember in spite of the rain.

Individuals and couples had the opportunity to put their foot down on a closed road route through attractive Lincolnshire countryside and the stadium finish was the cherry on the cake. Marshals, friends and families cheered them around the athletics track and across the finish line where a very large Valentine’s medal awaited them along with sweet treats from Wilcox Bakery.

It was a smooth finish by Ronny Wilson to win the 2022 race in 30:22 and watch Shane Robinson cross the line to take second place in 31:28. Mohammed Saleh was close behind, finishing third in 31:33.

Lindsay Skinner was the winning lady in 35:44 followed by Charlie Hanson in 35:57. Juliet Potter was third in 36:10. Interestingly enough; thirteen seconds separated first and second and again for second and third.

The last runner finished in 1:32:36.

There was a virtual option for anyone unable to attend the live race.

Tape 2 Tape Events thanked A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd, Wilcox Bakery, the local SPAR and Lincolnshire Co-op, volunteers and last but not least the runners for their enthusiasm and enjoyment.
