Blackpool Illuminations at Run the Lights 10K and 5K

Run the Lights event ready to shine again

Safe and secure Run the Lights 10K & 5K is waiting to put on a show

There is a bright spot amongst the dark moments and uncertainly as Run the Lights 10K & 5K returns on Saturday 15 August. The first live event from Fylde Coast Runners, since coronavirus kicked in, it will take participants on a trip along a traffic-free promenade featuring the Golden Mile and through Blackpool’s world famous Illuminations.

This Covid-19 secure event meets all government and UK Athletics guidelines and the organisers stress that whilst there are some changes due to the coronavirus they have worked hard to ensure it will be an enjoyable evening for everyone. There is a choice of 10K or 5K, chip timing and a customised glow in the dark medal for every finisher.

The main difference is no mass start as in normal times. This night run uses a time trial format where participants start individually or in groups of up to 6 people between 9pm and 9.45pm. They turn up ready to race with their bib number attached to their top and follow the one-way system into the start area whilst remembering to stay two metres apart (social distancing).

Runners keep to the left while on the course and stay two metres apart from each other. Marshals and other volunteers wearing PPE will provide encouragement as per usual and runners are asked to maintain social distancing near them and as they cross the finish line. At the end of the funnel they pick up a bag containing their medal, water and a bar of chocolate.

Competitor and Event Info along with entry details can be found at the Run the Lights 10K & 5K website.
