BBB 10K Battles Back
The plot thickens as runners raise funds for Battle bonfire night...
Race management experts Nice Work reckon you'll blow your running socks off as you race through history in the BBB 10K courtesy of the Battel Bonfire Boyes – the world's oldest bonfire society!
The 16th edition of this long-running battle will take place on Sunday, 7 September 2025, with 500 runners expected to compete on the pretty and historic streets of Battle, Sussex, where visitors have been 'welcome' since 1066!
The race helps to raise a few shillings for the host organisation, Battel Bonfire Boyes, whose BBB initials give rise to the race name and who claim to have been established in 1646, when St Mary's Church in Battle allocated the grand sum of two shillings and six pence for 'gunpowder treason rejoicing'. Since then, there have been bonfire night celebrations in the town, although inflation means the annual event now costs north of £20K to put on!
The BBB 10K course is a cracker, potentially fast, with some hilly sections and an explosive finish at the ancient Battle Abbey. The course map shows just under 400 feet of ascent on the single lap around the aptly named Powdermill Wood area, south of Battle.
The race enjoys a wonderful buzz, and you won't be short of fantastic local support as Battle residents come out in force to cheer you on as you sprint towards the finish line.
Last year, the fireworks were provided by race winners Ross Skelton (HY Athletic Club, 32:18) and fifth-placed Grace Baker (Hastings AC, 37:35). More than 250 runners battled to the finish line inside 60 minutes.
A mini BBB 1K will keep the kids entertained again this year. Last year's winners were Harry Jefferies (2:48) and Isla Horsman (2:59) from a field of 18 finishers in around four minutes.
