Who Doesn't Love A Thames Meander?
Flagship Hermes Running event sees 304 enjoy a Thameside trot...
Runners love the Thames Meander. The flagship event for Hermes Running, the latest Thames Meander Event Series was held from Petersham & Ham Sea Cadets, Richmond on Saturday, 9 August 2025, with just over 300 finishers across three race distances.
The Thames Meander Marathon, Thames Meander Half Marathon, and Thames Meander 10K were all held on the same flat as a pancake route on the Thames Path between the Race HQ at Petersham and the turnaround checkpoint at Canbury Gardens – a distance of 3.1 miles with a small extension to the Boaters Inn at Kingston to ensure the accuracy of the two longer events.
Fastest on the one out and back lap for the Thames Meander 10K was unattached M40 runner Mark Johnson in 38:47. He was joined in the sub-40 minutes bracket by Ryan Vermaak (Team Real Runners, 39:32) and M40 Ng Andrew (Dulwich Runners, 39:56).
Sarah Nye led the women home in 48:59. The runners-up were Elizabeth Vincent (54:26) and Rosie Sinfield (56:01), as 73 finished in 2:05:29.
With 186 finishers in just over four hours, the Thames Meander Half Marathon was the most popular race distance. The top three men were inside 90 minutes. William Robertson (1:23:53) raced clear of Gus Dunnett (1:25:24) and Ben Mills (1:27:37).
The leading women were not far behind as Maria Campanini (1:33:01) won from Carolyn Visser (1:34:34) and Melanie Wilkinson (1:35:00).
Finally, it was time for the 45 Thames Meander Marathon finishers to clock in at Petersham & Ham Sea Cadets, after their four loops up and down this beautiful stretch of the Thames Path. Leading the way in the only sub-three-hours performance was Clapham Pioneers M40 master, Michael Wiggins, in 2:59:30. Michael was followed at a respectful distance by Ihor Hospodarysco (3:22:31) and James Stewart (3:25:23).
The women's marathon podium was filled by Bella Cox (4:25:25), Zoe Sturgess (Endurance Dynamics, 4:29:30) and W35 Yifan Yang (4:30:24). The final finisher was just inside seven and a half hours.
