Guaranteed Places At The Great North Run
Forget the ballot, secure yourself a spot at this year's Great North Run by running for charity...
It's that time of year again, where thousands of runners nervously anticipate whether they have been successful in The Great North Run ballot. Those who have secured a place, will find out some time this week, so good luck to everyone who is praying for a 'you're in' email!
Of course, for the thousands of delighted runners there will be those who miss out. But it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom, because there is a way you can take part on 10 September and help others at the same time. Have you guessed how that is yet? Yes - run for a charity!
Running on behalf of a charity is an incredibly rewarding experience and guaranteed to motivate you to persevere with your training when the going gets tough. But which one to run for? There are many charities out there all deserving of your support - some big and some small. The smaller charities may not get as much publicity, but they still rely on the generosity of runners like you to help them reach their fundraising targets.
One smaller charity with spots available at this year's Great North Run is the Birchall Trust, a service which offers support to anyone aged four and above affected by rape, sexual and domestic abuse or sexualised violence in Cumbria and Lancashire.
A spokesperson from the charity said: "Join forces with us this September, we will make sure you get to the finish line. Our work is funded by the generosity of our supporters, so every step we make towards supporting people affected by rape and sexual abuse relies on every pound, and every runner."
"We ask for a £30 join-up admin fee, this will also contribute to your Birchall Running Vest. Your fundraising target will be set at £350! The Birchall Team are on hand to help with the fundraising for this event, so don't worry if you think you'll struggle to raise that amount, as you won't!"
If you would like to join forces with the team at Birchall Trust then find out more on their website.
