60 Years Of Going Round The Houses

Falkirk Victoria Harriers are preparing to celebrate 60 years of their iconic 10K race...

One of Scotland’s longest established road races will celebrate a big milestone this spring as the Round the Houses 10K returns to Grangemouth on 26 April to mark its 60th anniversary.

First staged in 1967 and organised by Falkirk Victoria Harriers, the event has become a popular fixture in the Scottish running calendar. Over six decades, thousands of runners from seasoned club athletes to first time participants have taken to the streets of Grangemouth to participate.

The 2026 edition will once again feature the popular 10K alongside a 2K Fun Run, forming part of a wider Race and Family Fun Day. Organisers say the anniversary year promises to be particularly special, inviting past competitors and new faces alike to be part of a historic celebration. The race also incorporates the East District 10K Road Championship, adding extra competitive edge to the occasion.

Known for its flat and fast layout, the course offers strong potential for personal bests. Runners will have the opportunity to finish on the same track that has hosted Commonwealth athletes, with enthusiastic spectator support both inside the stadium and out on the route. Participants will receive their finishing time by text shortly after crossing the line, along with a commemorative T shirt and water for recovery.

The Jim Dingwall Memorial Trophy will be presented to the race winner, and an additional £100 bonus is on offer for any athlete who sets a new course record. The current men’s record on the revised course, introduced in 2017, stands at 30:04 set by Robbie Simpson in 2019. The women’s record of 33:25 was set by Annabel Simpson in 2022.
