Sunrise City 5K Medal

Rise And Shine At City 5Ks

Wakey, wakey runners and join the family at this series of 5K events in six cities across the UK. Everyone is invited to run or walk at 5.30am on a Friday morning and improve their health and wellbeing.

There are six cities taking part in this initiative with five of them in the Midlands. They are Leicester, Peterborough, Birmingham, Nottingham and Derby with Sheffield completing the series. Organised in conjunction with Smooth Radio, the idea is for people to get up with the lark and run or walk 5k in the company of others and enjoy the endorphin rush at the same time.

Another bonus is being able to explore a city at a time when the majority of people are still asleep. It is quieter with little to no congestion from traffic or pedestrians so easier to run through and free from distractions. The only distraction might be a post-run cup of coffee!

Many people find going for a run before work leaves them feeling energised and ready to face the day ahead. This event fits in around childcare and any other family arrangements and the short distance (5k) is realistic for the majority. Every entrant is given a technical T-shirt and required to wear this during these events. They will be presented with a medal and a bottle of water at the finish and encouraged to share their experience on social media.

Sight loss charity Vista is the official partner at Leicester; When You Wish Upon a Star is the charity of choice for the other five cities.
