New Squirrel Race Proves Popular
New trail race for Merseyside sells out ahead of April date...
Excitement is building for the first-ever Red Squirrel 10K Trail Race, set to take place on Sunday 6 April in the stunning Ainsdale National Nature Reserve. Organised by Southport Strollers Running Club in partnership with Natural England, the race has captured the enthusiasm of the running community, with all 250 places selling out in record time.
Organisers commented: "With support from Merseyside running clubs and Southport’s social media community, word spread quickly about this new event, leading to an overwhelming response from participants."
The race will take runners on a scenic yet challenging route through the wooded paths and sand dunes of the reserve, culminating in a climb up the highest dune peak before a final sprint to the finish. Suitable for both seasoned trail runners and those new to off-road racing, the course is classified as moderately difficult but accessible to all abilities. There is no time limit to complete the race, making it an inclusive event for everyone.
Ainsdale National Nature Reserve, managed by Natural England, is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including sand lizards, deer and the race’s namesake - the elusive red squirrel. Participants will not only enjoy a spectacular running experience but also contribute to a good cause, as proceeds from the event (after covering costs) will be donated to the Southport Stronger Together charity.
With anticipation running high, the inaugural Red Squirrel 10K promises to be a thrilling day for runners and nature lovers alike. If you'd like to know more, visit the Southport Strollers Running Club website.
