Records Topple At Sunny Northallerton
Despite some seriously warm conditions on Sunday (27 May), the Northallerton 10K posted its largest number of entrants to date and welcomed, in Daniel Haymes, a new champion and course record holder
Even in the heat, the crowds who had lined the finish were treated to a strong performance from Derby AC’s Haymes, who took top position in 33:02. This was the first time Rob Scott had been defeated at the race, with the Richmond runner taking fifth (35:09) this time round. Quakers’ RC Michael Joyeux was close behind Haynes in 33:19, with Ian Fisher third 34:26.
Darlington Harriers’ Louise Talman was first female, and 13th overall, in a time of 39:27. Danielle Booth was Talman’s closest competitor in 39:51, while fellow Darlington Harrier Jade Hutchinson rounded off the top three in 42:58. Of the 725 runners, the midplaced runners crossed the line in and around 58 minutes.
A recent post on the event Facebook page, which included an impressive video of the day’s proceedings, read: “The sun shone yesterday and you all ran so hard, you all should be super proud of yourselves. A huge thank you to all the sponsors, marshals, supporters and runners. We are eternally grateful.”
The 10k lends support to the Pendragon Community Trust, a small, local charity focused on providing support to the lives of those with physical, mental and emotional difficulties. The multi-sensory unit based in Northallerton is truly an inspirational place and has become a real savior to so many families in the area.
